Things are looking grim for Games Convention Leipzig, despite another bumper year for the German expo.

While organisers at the Leipzig Messe are planning a 2009 show for August 2009, big name publishers could be off to the rival Cologne event, being organised by German trade body the BIU.

Cologne Messe chief Oliver P Kuhrt has today released a statement (in German) implying that all the major gaming firms will be represented at his new show, the big cheese noting that GC 2009 has already been confirmed with skepticism.

"It was to be expected that Leipziger Messe would announce dates for a 2009 Games Convention," he said.

"They will have to then do this, to a large extent without the industry, however."

More on this unseemly tussle as we get it.
