Age of Conan, the big-name MMO from genre veterans Funcom, now has 415,000 active subscribers, according to word out of the firm this week.

Financial report numbers were confirmed by the studio, after product manager Erling Ellingson suggested there were over 400,000 'real' subscribers - that's people paying every month to play the game - rather than just those who bought the boxed copy and played for the free trial period.

This makes Age of Conan the most successful MMO to launch following World of Warcraft's epic arrival. Lord of the Rings Online was previously the best newcomer, although with Warhammer Online looming, competition could be fierce as Christmas approaches.

More on Conan soon.

I think Warhammer has a chance to be a biggie, or at least compete better with WoW. I quit Age of Conan after the 30 days and a friend of mine quit after he got to the high levels because of a lack of content! Basically they released an unfinished game.
