Splinter Cell Conviction not on hold?

Ubi delaying stealth title?

According to CVG today, Splinter Cell Conviction may be "on hold" at Ubisoft Montreal, the developer taking the latest stealth-action title back to the drawing board entirely.

Rumour has it that the decision to rebuild the game will push the title back to winter 2009 or even spring 2010. Ubisoft haven't commented on this yet, but CVG cite Xbox World 360 magazine as confirming that this is a definite.

The big feature that was set to make Conviction a new Splinter Cell experience was the dynamic crowds, with which our hero can blend in, giving players another option beyond shadow-creeping.

Chit-chat suggests Ubisoft were concerned the title wasn't up to par compared to other recent debutants, including Assassin's Creed. Hopefully we'll have more soon.

Update: Time for some of that 'more soon'. Ubisoft released a statement on this, this morning, VG247 quoting a PR rep: "If they’ve got a Ubisoft source then there’s something to be answered there, but if it’s just them commenting on something that they’ve heard, then it’s hard for us to make a statement on something that someone’s just taken a punt on."

More as we get it.
