Japanese Xbox 360 sales have doubled in the past week, closing the gap on the PS3.

The figures, courtesy of Media Create, show that 7,983 Xbox 360s were sold last week, whereas this week the numbers have soared to 15,474.

Sony's PS3 topped 360 sales, but the total of 17,436 is slightly less than the previous week's 17,448.

Even though Wii sales have not been as strong of late, the console is still the number one in the region, selling 35,298 units this week.
