The Wii Fit craze may have been subdued and eventually overwhelmed by the impending wave of festive indulgence and Credit Crunch-induced comfort eating, but that hasn't stopped EA working on their own Wii fitness title, according to word from Men's Fitness magazine (reported by Joystiq).

According to the report, the new game won't use the Wii's Balance Board peripheral, it'll use a controller of EA's own invention - and this is something the publisher is clearly not afraid of anymore - perhaps given the success of Rock Band.

The new gizmo will see the Wiimote attached to the player's body where it will then measure their activity during a series of exercises.

How the game will differ from Nintendo's Wii Fit beyond the controller remains unclear, although we would expect news on this in-time for the inevitable healthy living resolutions of new year 2009. Now, where did I put that Black Forest Gâteaux?
